trade fair with a congress for flood protection, climatic consequences and disaster management
North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the German states with the most water resources and is therefore the ideal venue for the acqua alta, which is starting off in Essen with a new concept.
The acqua alta sees itself as a platform for the exchange and transfer of knowledge for everyone involved in flood prevention: from the flood prevention officers of local authorities, representatives from politics, science and research and disaster management, meteorologists and morphologists to the hydraulic engineering industry, architects and engineers. This interdisciplinary concept makes the acqua alta unique in Europe.
In the direct neighbourhood of the Benelux countries, both national and cross-border problems and tasks of flood prevention will be discussed.
In 2014, the acqua alta gets off to a start as a congress with an accompanying exhibition - on 18 and 19 November, everything in Essen will revolve around the subjects of flood prevention, climate consequences and disaster management. After 2014, the acqua alta will be held every two years as a trade fair and congress at Messe Essen.
